The Critical Challenges of Traditional Flooring in Medical Settings

Prior to the renovation, Longlin TCM Hospital’s old campus relied on conventional floor tiles, which led to a series of operational headaches. First, the tiles lacked effective antibacterial properties, a major flaw in healthcare environments where pathogenic bacteria such as Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus aureus are prevalent. Second, their poor wear resistance meant frequent scratches and damage under the high foot traffic of medical staff, patients, and equipment. Third, the tiles had inadequate slip resistance, posing a significant fall risk for elderly patients and busy medical personnel. Additionally, the porous surface of traditional tiles made them prone to dirt buildup, driving up daily cleaning and maintenance costs. These issues not only affected the hospital’s operational efficiency but also undermined its ability to provide a safe and hygienic environment for patients and staff.

Why Homogeneous Through-Colour PVC Flooring Was Chosen

To address these challenges, the hospital’s core management team launched a comprehensive search for suitable flooring solutions. After evaluating multiple options, they focused on homogeneous through-colour PVC flooring for its inherent advantages in medical settings. In September 2024, the team conducted an on-site inspection of Dajulong’s manufacturing facility, a leading provider of medical homogeneous through-colour flooring. During the inspection, they verified the full production process of the flooring, from raw material selection to finished product testing, and reviewed authoritative antibacterial test reports for the Gloria homogeneous through-colour series.

The test results confirmed that the homogeneous through-colour PVC flooring met the ISO22196 standard, achieving a 99% antibacterial rate against 6 common pathogenic bacteria. It also boasted an R9 slip resistance rating, ensuring excellent anti-slip performance even in wet conditions—critical for hospital corridors, wards, and treatment rooms. Furthermore, the flooring’s homogeneous through-colour structure ensures that its appearance remains consistent even after long-term wear, eliminating the need for frequent replacement. These features aligned perfectly with the hospital’s demand for a flooring solution that is hygienic, safe, durable, and cost-effective.
